Periodontics

Periodontics is the specialty that prevents and treats infections and inflammations of the gums caused by various types of bacteria. Nearly 40% of adults suffer from periodontal disease. The disease progresses slowly, often without any pain or visible warning signs. This is why it is so important to diagnose and treat it as soon as possible.

Gum disease

Gum disease, or gingivitis, is an inflammation of the gums that manifests with redness and bleeding when brushing or spontaneously. It is usually due to the accumulation of plaque that is not removed by brushing. At this stage, the disease can be reversed by following a strict, personalised brushing scheduled and attending periodic check-ups. If gingivitis is not treated, the harmful bacteria will gradually attack the gum tissue and bone, ultimately weakening the teeth. This is called periodontitis or periodontal disease (formerly known as pyorrhea), which is currently the main cause of loosening and loss of teeth. At SOMA Dental Clinic, we offer preventive treatments to avoid problems in the gums and supporting structures of the teeth.
